Explore London's Top Attractions in Just Two Days: A 48-Hour Itinerary

Sometimes all we have are a couple of days. So let's make the most of them!

If you only had two days to spend in London, what would you do first?

If you answered "EAT!" - then you're definitely in the right place.

But this two-day itinerary isn't just about food. It's about experiencing a different culture, learning something new, and creating some unforgettable memories.

I want to be transparent though. You most definitely need more than two full days to discover all the greatness that is London, England.

But even if you had two weeks to spend in this city, you still wouldn't be able to experience everything that London has to offer.

However, this post is for people who want to make the most out of the time we do have.

In 2017, I was blessed to be able to spend some time in London during my first trip to Europe. At the time, I was still a student in pharmacy school, so time and money were limited. My goal was to make the most out of those resources while still having the most bomb trip ever!

I chose London as the starting point to my 14-day Western Europe Trip of A Lifetime because most flights to London are direct (and reasonably inexpensive) from the East Coast - which is still true to this day (especially from NYC, Boston & the DMV area). If you're also traveling on a budget, please keep in mind that London isn't the cheapest city to visit, but getting there can be!

If you're interested in learning more about finding cheap flights overseas, let me know in the comments below.

Otherwise, let's start exploring the best of London, England.

How To Plan A Perfect 2 Days in London

Day One

8 AM

Start your day at Terry's Cafe with a classic British staple - the English breakfast. This cafe prides itself on sourcing local, quality produce, and meats to provide delicious meals in a cozy environment. While you're here, explore the famous Borough Market nearby and grab a cup of hot coffee or tea.

If you have some extra time on your hands, you can cross over the London Bridge and tour the Tower of London. You can tour the Tower of London for free with your London Pass.

12 PM

Choose from a variety of local food vendors at Whitecross Market, an open-air street market offering a range of cuisines including Korean, Italian, Turkish, Indian, and more. This place is perfect for sampling the city's ethnic food offerings and convenient when time is limited. Be aware that there is little to no seating available, so be prepared to eat on the go.

After lunch, head over to the Museum of London to learn about the unique history of this capital city, or you can visit the National Gallery if art is more of your thing. Either way, both attractions are free.

FTG Insider Tip = Get lost in the Seven Dials nearby - a unique area of seven interconnected streets with a variety of shops, cafes, bars to explore.

3 PM

You can't say you've been to London without having an afternoon high tea. Located in the basement of a small bookstore, Tea & Tattle is an excellent option for experiencing a casual afternoon tea like a local. Make sure to try their delicious scones with clotted cream and extensive tea offerings.

Now's the perfect time to relax and spend some time getting lost in the city. You can use this time to head back to your hotel/Airbnb or explore on your own.

FTG Insider Tip = Since space is limited in this quaint tea room, book your afternoon tea in advance here. Vouchers are good for up to a year.

7 PM

If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, head to London Shell Co. for a unique, 5-course seafood dinner on their cruising restaurant barge. Both their food and drink menus have been carefully crafted and offer some British classics along with a modern twist. Doors open at 6 PM, and the boat departs precisely at 7 PM, so make sure you get there early!

FTG Insider Tip = Reserve your dinner cruise in advance here!

Day Two

After getting a taste of London, I'm sure you're ready to delve a little deeper into what makes this British city so iconic.

9 AM

Begin the day at Regency Cafe for a different take on the classic British breakfast. This diner offers up a delicious and affordable meal while being transplanted to the '50s with its unique decor. After breakfast, take the time to visit some quintessential London landmarks - Big Ben & the Palace of Westminster.

Also, make sure you set aside time to watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace nearby.

FTG Insider Tip: The guard schedule changes throughout the year, so be sure to check the times here first!

Next, take a stroll through Hyde Park on the way to the home of Prince William, Kensington Palace & Gardens, and to our next culinary adventure!

12 PM

Grab a snack and drink at Serpentine Bar & Kitchen - a glass-walled, waterfront restaurant located in the middle of picturesque Hyde Park. If the weather isn't on your side, you can skip the walk through the park and head straight to Kensington Palace via the Tube.

After arriving at Kensington Palace, spend some time exploring the home and beautiful gardens. The tour is free with your London Pass; otherwise, it's 18 euros, which is still a good deal.

2 PM

You can't leave England without having a classic British staple. Poppie's Fish & Chips is a local favorite and for a good reason. Freshly caught fish fried in a delicious batter served with chips (fries) and a homemade tartar sauce. Need I say more? They even cater to people with peanut allergies by offering an alternative to their standard cooking oil. Just be sure to let them know.

After lunch, you can fit in some more sightseeing or hang out at a local British pub to meet some new friends. If you would like suggestions for some decent pubs, let me know in the comments or send me a message.

6 PM

Due to its many ethnic groups, England doesn't just have one National Dish. However, chicken tikka masala is generally considered one of the national dishes, and I can see why. Taste England's spin on this Indian meal at Dishoom while visiting the historic Brick Lane.

8 PM

Also located on Brick Lane is the best-hidden find I came across on my trip to London. Whether you're getting dessert or picking up some tasty souvenirs for family and friends back home, Dark Sugars is a must!
